Sinus Infection And Toothache

Sinus inflammation or sinus infection can cause toothache. The sinus problem occurs when the tissue lining the sinuses get swollen and inflamed. Toothache commonly occurs due to sinusitis. In this guide, we are going to give you a better understanding of the sinus infection and toothache.

Introduction

Sinuses are 4 pairs of air-filled spaces found in the facial bones near the forehead, eyes, and behind the cheekbones. In the nasal cavity, it warms, moistens, and filter the air. Additionally, it produces mucus which gets into the nasal cavity and it cleans the nose. The infection can occur when the air-filled area is blocked by fluid.

Sinus infection can lead to pain and discomfort in the upper teeth. The upper teeth and jawbone are affected as their roots are near the sinuses. In some cases, the pain can spread to the lower teeth.

Just make sure that you do not wait for a long time and seek help from the best dentist. If you avoid going to the dental clinic then the problem can get worse in the future.

How are Sinus and regular toothache different?

The symptoms of regular toothache are the same as sinus toothache. However, sinus toothache occurs in the upper molars, which means several teeth get affected instead of one. If you have pain in these teeth, then here the symptoms which you might have:

  • Fever
  • Low in energy

Sinus toothache leads to pain which can get worse with certain movements. If a person bends or jumps the pain can get worse. With movement, the sinus pressure shift, and tooth pain increases. The pain may get less when you lie down or sit.

Are there any other symptoms?

The sinus problem starts with a viral cold and can turn into a bacterial infection. Swelling and inflammation cause sinus blockage which leads to facial pain. Some of the primary causes are fungal, allergy, or bacterial infection. Additional symptoms include:

  • Pressure around your nose, eyes, or forehead
  • Thick, discolored mucus
  • Halitosis (Bad breath)
  • Ear pain
  • Hoarse voice
  • Loss of smell and taste
  • Sore throat
